Every pet owner has a camera roll full of pictures of their pet. We can’t help it! They are so cute and do such adorable and hilarious things. Plus, they are such a huge part of our lives! Of course we want tons of photos of our pets. But after a while, all the photos can start to be the same. We might run out of creative or new ideas for pet photos. So, we thought we’d share some of our pet photo ideas.
If this list feels overwhelming, or you’re not sure you have the right tools to capture the images of your pet that you are envisioning, you might want to hire a professional pet photographer instead. Of course, if you hire a pet photographer, they will already have tons of pet photo ideas for you. Professional pet photographers know how to get the best pictures and most creative shots of your beloved fur baby.
Catch your pet in action.
Dogs catching treats or licking peanut butter off the roof of their mouth. Cats pouncing or caught in the act of being naughty. Or maybe you get a shot of your dog shaking off after swimming, chasing a ball, or jumping up on the couch. If you have a larger, more athletic dog, try getting shots of them catching or frisbee or jumping off a dock into the water.
Capture the connection between you and your pet.
Set up your tripod or enlist the help of a friend to catch the interactions between you and your pet. Take photos of you and your pet in your favorite spots in your home. Or head outside and try capturing you and your pet interacting with each other. If you’re lucky, you’ll get the perfect shot that shows the bond between you and your pet.
Get ready for the close up.
Capture a different point of view by getting super close up with your furry friend. Try close ups of their ears, snout, or paws. Even a close up shot of their fur can become an interesting pic of your pet. But be careful, taking extreme close ups can become addictive, once you start focusing on how adorable your pet’s toe beans are!
Capture your pet’s personality.
Try saying your pet’s favorite words, like ‘walk’ or ‘treat,’ or calling them a good dog. Catch your pet in their favorite spot or doing their favorite activity. Go for close ups of their facial expressions to try to capture their personality.
Capture them through water or glass.
We’ve all seen those cute pictures taken from under a glass table, with a cat sitting on top, adorable toe beans and all. If your dog loves to swim, try using an underwater camera to catch them in their element. One of our favorite ideas is putting peanut butter on a glass door, and letting your dog lick it while you take photos from the other side. There are endless ways to get creative with this one!
Use props or filters.
Here, your imagination is the only limit. Give your pet glasss, a hat, a tutu, or whatever costume you can dream up. (Just make sure they’re okay with it and not uncomfortable!) Add flower crowns or a unicorn horn using camera filters. Get creative and show off your pet’s true style!
