Choosing a dog walker is similar to choosing a pet sitter. But, there are some specific things you might want to look for in a dog walker that you might not need in a pet sitter.
Is the dog walker regularly reliable?
This is key, because you and your dog need to be able to stick to the schedule. Things happen, so make sure your dog walker is regular and has a back up for those days when they can’t make it. You don’t want yours or your dog’s whole day upended because your dog walker is sick!
What other dogs will your dog walker be with at the same time as your dog?
Dog walkers often walk many dogs at once, as that’s how they are able to keep their rates low. It’s also great for socializing the dogs, so they get to hang out with their friends all day.
Where will the dog walker take your dog?
It’s good to find out some of the basic routes and parks that your dog might be visiting on their walk. Hopefully, there are enough walkable and green spaces so they can have some variety, too! Ask your dog walker what routes they might take and what parks they might visit with your dog.
Can your dog walker provide the level of activity your pet needs?
Pet sitters are there to meet your pets’ needs and provide interaction and safety. But dog walkers are more specifically there to help your pet get exercise, usually. Make sure your dog walker can provide the level of activity your pet wants and needs. You don’t want your dog too be over or under walked and end up exhausted or will still too much energy!
